About Us

We are a community based centre - that is we are a non-profit organisation managed by parents of children attending the Centre.  This means that we are focused on doing the best we can for our families.

The Centre is licensed for long day care 61 children from birth to six years old. The Centre is open Monday to Friday from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm and offers full-time, daily care. Approximately 90 children use the centre per week.

The Centre has staff-children ratios higher than the minimum required by legislation and has a low turnover of staff.

The Centre does not provide occasional day care.

We put great value on the staff of the Centre working together with the parents  in providing tailored eduction and care to each child (see the Learning page).

The Centre is accredited with the National Childcare Accreditation Council .

The Centre's services are eligible for Australian Government subsidies such as Child Care Benefit and the Child Care Tax Rebate.

History of the Centre

The Centre was initially set up in the mid 1980s, as part of the former Canberra Technical and Further Education system, now the Canberra Institute of Technology, providing care and education for the children of students and staff, and practical experience for students in child care courses within the Institute.

For several years the Centre has been a separate body, in the form of a non-profit incorporated association under the control of parents of children at the Centre (see the Organisation and Management page).  The Centre continues to be associated with the Canberra Institute of Technology and its childcare courses in a number of ways.
